Job Description: Michael Best & Friedrich is seeking a Research Services Manager in any of our Colorado, Utah, or North Carolina officesThis is a hybrid role and allows the ability to work remotely up to 2 days per week. Under the leadership of the Director of Research Services & CI, the Research Services Manager provides both legal and non-legal research and analysis in support of the firm’s strategic priorities. 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Collaborate with Research Services and Business Development teams in support of attorney and client research needs
  • Manage the assigned office resources and provision of services
  • Conduct legal and non-legal research and analysis; synthesize information for attorneys, clients, and staff
  • Perform detailed case law research and cite checking of briefs and other documents
  • Monitor legislation, litigation, and patent activity in support of client interests
  • Monitor alerts and news flow to support proactive initiatives and best practices
  • Provide orientation and training for attorneys, paralegals, and staff on research platforms
  • Develop and promote a knowledge management culture
  • Manage additional research and organizational functions as assigned 

Job Requirements

Knowledge Base & Education:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited graduate program is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a similar role at a law firm or other professional services environment
  • Knowledge of research resources commonly used in large law firms
  • Understanding of the broad areas of law practiced by a full-service firm

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team, with a desire to be a part of a collaborative, high-performing group

For Colorado applicants only (as required by the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act): The annual compensation range for this position in our Chicago office is between $95,000 and $140,000. Compensation is determined based on qualifications and experience. This position is considered full-time and is therefore eligible to participate in employer-sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, vision, as well as elective/voluntary life, disability, and accident coverage. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in the firm’s 401k plan.
