POSITION OVERVIEW: The Branch Librarian for the Utah Libraries manages and maintains law libraries and provides research and reference services to federal judges and judiciary staff in the Salt Lake City courthouses and throughout the District of Utah. The Branch Librarian works with the Circuit Librarian and other Research and Reference Librarians circuit-wide to develop and deliver training and educational programs to court staff and to provide online reference and research services (including Westlaw, Lexis-Nexis, OCLC, SIRSI ILS, and the judiciary intranet). The librarian is expected to perform outreach, be comfortable with emerging technologies, improve access to online databases and Internet resources, and provide training. The librarian may perform chambers collection maintenance, as needed. The librarian works as part of a collaborative team on library-wide issues and projects with other librarians in the Circuit. Additional duties as assigned. This position reports to the Associate Circuit Librarian in Denver. This permanent position is up to three-quarters time and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

REQUIREMENTS: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution; JD from an ABA-accredited law school (strongly preferred); at least three years of professional law library experience; solid online research skills (including Lexis, Westlaw, and the Internet) and familiarity with both print and electronic resources; experience working with instructional technology and multi-media formats; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including willingness to make presentations, conduct training sessions, and work in a team environment. Additional duties as assigned. Travel within the circuit may be required.

The anticipated initial annual salary range for someone who is hired into this position is $85,000 – $100,000.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough research using electronic and print resources to address requests submitted via our virtual research platform.

Train attorneys and business professionals on effectively using our research tools.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

This role will be fully remote and is expected to work 9-5:30 PST.

Expertise with standard legal resources, such as Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, WK’s VitalLaw, Capital IQ, Deal Point Data, Intelligize, Harvey, CoCounsel, VLex Vincent and other related subscription services.

General Purpose:

Provides complex research, reference and related services to Holland & Hart attorneys, staff and clients to support the business of law and strategic priorities of the firm. 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Performs legal, business, and competitive intelligence research for attorneys, paralegals and support staff, using a variety of electronic and print resources. This can include various types of quick or complex research including case, docket, and filings retrievals, legislative histories, news, public records, and company research.
  2. Assists with collection development by evaluating new digital & print resources and assessing attorney information needs and usage patterns.
  3. Aids in orientation of new attorneys & staff on our research services, materials, procedures and policies.
  4. Supports the Firm’s use of online databases by assisting in training, coordinating training sessions through vendor webinars, and trouble-shooting technical issues.
  5. Creates current awareness alerts & newsletters for ongoing monitoring of clients, legal news, industries, legislation and subject specialties.
  6. Creates new accounts and manages passwords for various electronic resources.
  7. Shares responsibilities for maintaining and updating the Library Intranet pages.

Job Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certification):

  4. Technological competency with a variety of databases (Lexis, Bloomberg, Courtlink, VitalLaw, EOS, etc.) and proven ability to manage digital resources.

SALARY RANGE: KS: CL 27/1 ($58,939) – CL 28/61 ($114,850)

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Branch Librarian for the Kansas and Wyoming Libraries manages and maintains law libraries and provides research and reference services to federal judges and judiciary staff in the Kansas City and Cheyenne courthouses and throughout the Districts of Kansas and Wyoming. The Branch Librarian works with the Circuit Librarian and other Research and Reference Librarians circuit-wide to develop and deliver training and educational programs to court staff and to provide online reference and research services (including Westlaw, Lexis-Nexis, OCLC, SIRSI ILS, and the judiciary intranet). The librarian is expected to perform outreach, be comfortable with emerging technologies, improve access to online databases and Internet resources, and provide training. The librarian may perform chambers collection maintenance, as needed. The librarian works as part of a collaborative team on library-wide issues and projects with other librarians in the Circuit. Additional duties as assigned. This position reports to the Associate Circuit Librarian in Denver and will supervise Library Technicians in Kansas City and Cheyenne. 

REQUIREMENTS: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution; JD from an ABA-accredited law school; at least three years of professional law library experience (previous supervisory experience preferred); solid online research skills (including Lexis, Westlaw, and the Internet) and familiarity with both print and electronic resources; experience working with instructional technology and multi-media formats; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including willingness to make presentations, conduct training sessions, and work in a team environment. Additional duties as assigned. Travel within the circuit may be required.
