Program Description and Presenter Biography:

Description: Library staff are constantly being asked to do more with less. Learn how the basic tenets of project management can help your team work smarter, maximize resources and deliver high-quality services. In this session, participants will explore the principles of project management through examples from all areas of library work, including event planning, collection management, and systems administration. Participants will learn traditional project management methods, current tools used for managing projects, the skills necessary of a project manager, and new trends in project management.

Instructor: Michael Perry is the Head of Assessment and Planning at Northwestern University Library. In this role he oversees the development of the library strategic plan and the assessment initiatives and project planning that support its outcomes. Previously, he was the Collection Services Project Manager. In this role he manages a variety of projects such as an ILS migration, implementing a cloud based discovery system, and changes in classification systems. He graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Government and from Dominican University with a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science with a focus on knowledge management as well as organizational analysis and design.
